No doubt, a White Russian is one of the best ways to relax and cool off in the shade. The classic combines cream, vodka, and a coffee liqueur to make a sweet and rich cocktail. Here, Blue Bottle Director of Coffee Culture Michael Phillips ups the ante by using actual coffee. The more chocolatey flavors of Blue Bottle Bold Cold Brew work especially well with the cream. To take this drink to the next level, we make the ice cube with Bold Cold Brew, too, so plan ahead when making it—or use regular ice.

INGREDIENTS | Makes 1 drink

Milk Tea.jpg

2 ounces Blue Bottle Bold Cold Brew, plus more for freezing, optional

Ice

1½ ounces vodka, such as Tito’s

1 to 2 teaspoons white sugar

1 ounce heavy cream, preferably organic

2 dashes walnut bitters, optional

1 large Bold Cold Brew ice cube, or several large plain ice cubes

DIRECTIONS

If desired, pour enough Bold Cold Brew into a large ice cube mold or several smaller ones and freeze for at least 4 hours.

Fill a cocktail shaker with regular ice. Add the vodka, sugar, and the 2 ounces Blue Bottle Bold Cold Brew, and stir until a light frost appears on the outside. If using, place your Cold Brew ice cube into a 10-ounce rocks glass (or add regular ice). Strain the cocktail into the glass. For a nice visual effect, pour the heavy cream slowly over the top of the ice, allowing it to slowly marble into the drink. If using, add the two dashes of bitters. Tuck in a little straw, give it a stir, and enjoy.
